In answer to Steve's question as to why Cambria county people vote
Democratic, I would like to give some insight.  I moved up here from
Altoona ten years ago and have gotten to know many of them, and posed
them that very question.  How can you vote for a person who believes in
unrestricted abortion and has voted to take away your guns?  Most of
the time I get a blank stare.  They just don't think about it.  Voting
Democratic to them is like being Catholic, or whatever religion they
happened to inherit from their parents.  The peer pressure is such that
you simply don't debate, let alone think, about these things.

You have to shut out reality for the sake of peace with family and
neighbors.  When confronted individually, some of them are actually
thoughtful about it, but with many it goes right over their head.
Almost like you are from another planet speaking a weird language. I
have met several folks, like myself, who were once Democratics but woke
up to the infanticide, fascism, and Marxism running rampant in the
party and got out. But like the lemmings who decide not to follow the
horde off the cliff, the are the outcasts.

Thanks for the chance to vent,

Jeff

I
have recently become a regular listener to talk radio and now can't get
enough of it, thanks for your input Charlie and Steve.

My
father has and will be a great source of wisdom and inspiration to me.
He has been saving clippings of sayings and statements from various
people some famous and some not.  One he pointed out to me made me stop
and think about the state of our fragile and beloved country.  Many
centuries ago Plato wrote that dictatorship is followed by monarchy,
monarchy is followed by democracy, democracy is followed by anarchy,
and anarchy is followed dictatorship.  He also wrote that democracy is
the best form of government, but theat people living in a democracy
come to expect more than they deserve, and democracy fails because the
people will use any means to obtain what they believe they deserve.
Then anarchy takes over, to be followed by dictatorship.  (
This was written by J. Donald Patterson in response to a Wallstreet Journal article in 2000).

Times are very
scarey, I lost a small business and I didn't expect anyone to "bail" me
out, I did it on my own.  (Steve, you may remember me as one of the
"Get The Picture Girls" former owner of Get The Picture, Station Mall)
I've survived and now support John McCain and Sara Palin so our
democracy will continue to be upheld.

Energy Policy?

OK John and Barak, This simple
minded , bitter, hillbilly who is still clinging to his God and his
guns wants to know what you propose to make the U.S. less dependent on
foreign oil. ?

Instead
of sloganeering and thirty second sound bites. Lets hear some
proposals. No I'm not talking about raising the CAFE standards. I don't
think you can legislate higher MPG cars anyway, the free market is
taking care of that. Did you notice that GM is converting four plants
that currently produce pickups and large SUV's to produce smaller SUV's
and the new plug in Volt electric car? Was that a response to the
higher CAFE standard or the laws of supply and demand? Pick your law, I
think it was the latter.

Instead
of punishing the oil companies for alleged windfall profits.( Like you
guys don't have oil stocks in your portfolios, I don't think I'd vote
for you if you don't because you're crazy!) How about giving or
extending tax breaks to consumers to buy hybrids or electric vehicles?
Extend the incentives to insulate our homes better, to buy energy
efficent flourescent bulbs, energy saving appliances,TV's etc. Instead
of using the regulatory stick use the economic incentive carrot of tax
breaks to allow us to keep more of OUR money, both on
April 15th and at the end of the month when our utility bills arrive.
Here's a novel idea, why don't you Senators jointly sponsor some of
these initiatives? Demonstrate you are committed to your country, not
just winning the big prize.

I
personally believe that a sincere attempt at energy independence or
less dependence on foreign oil, has to include more domestic
production, including ANWAR, drilling off the Gulf coast where the
Chinese are already drilling just outside the 12 mile limit. You think
they might be taking OUR oil there?

It
has to include include Wind, Solar , Geothermal and other " green
tecdhnologies" and by the way, how do you propose to handle all the
Indiana Bat and NIMBY objectons?

Where
do you stand on Nuclear power.? France produces 80% of their
electricity by nuclear power. I know Harry Reid doesn't want the
repository in HIS state. But it's time to get serious Senators. By the
way Harry, does that Nuclear repository create any high paying jobs
that are done by Americans.? Kind of difficult to outsource those jobs!

As
for ethanol, why aren't we asking the Brazilian's , Hey, how do you
guys do it? Isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? I
understand GM is building most of these Ethanol powered cars in Brazil
now. This isn't exactly new technology. The Germans were forced to
devlop synthetic fuels in WWII by alled bombers. Instead of taking
perfectly good food, such as corn, to make alcohol lets develop the
technologys to take sawgrass and other biomass to make clean burning
fuel.

Finally
Senaotrs what about clean coal technology? We are the equivalent of
Saudi Arabia in coal in this county. Why don't we invest the equivalent
of a new aircraft carrier in R & D in coal technology. I know
important work is being done in that are at PSU and other universites
as we speak.

Yes
John and Barack , this is one taxpayer who thinks thiswill be akey
issue in November . For me it ranks right behind National Defense. It
affects so many elements of our daily lives. Our national security, our
national sovereignty, our economy, cost of living, quality of life. I
am one American who woujd love to see Hugo Chavez and Amadinejad ( sp?)
deprived of all that oil revenue.

I need to hear where you stand and not in thirty seconds either!!

The question on burning seawater that isn't answered is how much energy
goes into the device that is actually burning the water. He's trying
to develop a cancer scanning device and this was an accidental
discovery. Catscans and MRI's for example are big and use a lot of
power. My guess is that it is much like fusion at this time, it takes
more energy to fuse atoms than the energy output that results.

This doesn't mean that it isn't possible to make it work, refinement
and development could quite well make it possible. I'm all for the
continued development of fusion power. Yet folks want a magical fix and
it just isn't there. It really is elementary physics.

If you want a fix, it isn't magical, but it is physically possible........

This ethanol fix is a waste of time IMO. If we had unlimited
power, we could pretty much do unlimited things. Solar power
satellites and nuclear power offer almost unlimited clean power, but we
are too stupid and irrationally fearful to get out of the fix we are
in.

additional data on the cop killers in Philadelphia.
The following link from the Phildelphia Daily News gives all the
details of the three assailants criminal past and their sentences.
http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/2012923/posts
The actual shooter, Howard Cain, was convicted in 1996 for 4 counts of
robbery, carrying firearms without a license and criminal conspiracy.
His full sentence would have held him in prison until 2052. He would
not have been able to kill anyone. Levon T. Warner and Eric Floyd also
were under sentences for convictions of violent felonies that would
have kept them in jail until 2012.
The Daily News article gives details of other convicted offenders who
are released early and have killed police officers. The point is simple
if you are serious about protecting police officers let us have to deal
with them only once. Keep THEM off the streets and don't take guns away
from law abiding citizens.

Your Opinion and Comments: I
am a retired State Police Officer and I take great offense at the
Governor's use of the tragic death of a police officer to politicize
this issue. Banning assault style guns or high capacity magazines will
have no effect on the safety of police officers. Such a law will only
serve to keep these items from people who obey the law. Criminals will
still have access to illegal weapons. Remember a criminal is defined as
a person who does not obey the law. What makes the Governor think that
they will obey any new laws on gun control?
There is legislation already in place that would make difference to
police safety. It is the mandatory 5 years in prison for committing any
crime with a gun. When was the last time you heard of any criminal
being sentenced to 5 additional years in prison for violating this law?
You haven't. It is not enforced. Why do we need more restrictions on
law abiding citizens when we will not enforce the ones we already have
against the criminals? Let’s remove the criminals not the guns from our
streets.
I have another question for the Governor. Why is the murder rate so
high in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and any other major city with
strict gun laws? Yet here in Blair County where we have more guns than
people it is low. In fact the murder rate throughout the state is 4 per
100,000 while in Philadelphia it is 19 per 100,000. Could there be
other issues in play, such as gang activity, unemployment, a lack of
family structure, poor education, light sentences for violent
offenders, etc., etc. No where, I repeat no where, has the tightening
of gun restrictions reduced crime. In fact the opposite is true. Where
gun restrictions have been relaxed crime has dropped.
One other step the Governor might take to protect police would be to
sign the death warrants for the 200+ convicted murderers in
Pennsylvania. I would suggest that he begin Mummia Abu Jamal, a
convicted murderer of a Philadelphia cop. I do not believe the death
penalty is a deterrent to crime, but I do believe that using it and the
mandatory 5 year sentence would send a message that might actually
reduce the murder rate.
Before you jump on the Governor’s gun control bandwagon ask yourself,
“How would the new law have prevented this crime?” “How will it prevent
criminals from USING weapons?” “What deterrent effect will it have on
the criminal?” In the recent case of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, an
assault weapon ban would not have prevented his death. It would have
done nothing to preclude his murderers from using whatever weapons they
had to escape arrest. It would have no deterrent effect on the criminal
because judges DO NOT add additional time in jail for violating gun
laws during the commission of other crimes. Governor, get off your gun
control soap box, instruct your law enforcement agencies to enforce the
laws we already have, encourage the courts to hand down tough sentences
for crimes committed with a gun, and make some room for them in the
prison system by signing the death warrants. Then maybe more cops will
get to enjoy their retirement.

Being from PA
I wanted to express how bitter I am about Obama. Firstly i would like
to know how in the world a man that say he was a drug user in high
school and college can justify running for President of our country.
Maybe that's why he is always undecided because he really can't
decide. I'm really afraid for our country if he is elected. He says
with you and me we will make it. What part of we going to help with
anyway. Also on the issue on abortion Obama said if one of his
daughters got pregnant at a young age they shouldn't have to suffer all
their life for it. So I'd guess he's for abortion but I'm bitter and
can't really decide at this very moment.

Your Opinion and Comments: Barack
Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, is without question a racist and an
anti-American preacher of hate. Obama is now trying to distance himself
from the vitriol that Wright has spewed for the last 20 years. However,
his statements are quite disingenuous.
Obama has said he repudiates what Wright said during those sermons or
that he wasn't even there during the worst of them. He also says he
doesn't want to kick the pastor while he is down since he is retiring.
Repudiating the sermons now has no meaning. Why did he not stand up
against those words then? The media has already put the lie to his not
being there by documenting that he was in fact present for one of the
worst. And finally the fact that Wright is retiring is totally
irrelevant.
What is relevant is how much of that racist philosophy does Obama hold.
He sat through 20 years of those sermons and identifies Wright as his
mentor. And, of course, he only disavows that philosophy when it would
hurt his candidacy for president. Wright's philosophy on America sheds
a whole new light on Michelle Obama's statement regarding her pride in
her country.
If Obama truly believes that the words Wright said were reprehensible,
why did he continue to listen for 20 years? Why did he rely on this man
to be his spiritual adviser? And why is it only now that he stands up
against racism and anti-American rhetoric? These are the questions that
need to be asked and answered before we can risk having this man as our
president.

Your Opinion and Comments: Hey
there, again! Just wanted to let everyone know I've started doing a
daily Mon-Fri (most times) blog on my myspace page, which can be found
at http://www.myspace.com/jimmaster
I originally thought about posting each of these blogs over here as
well, but thought better of it, until I heard Steve mention on his show
the other day "This is your chance to be a columnist!" So with that
comment in mind, here is my blog from March 13, "Welfare, Government
Hand-outs, and the Nanny State" Enjoy (or not) and respond!
----------------------------------
This stems from a series of comments I heard made on the radio, and
then a conversation I had with a friend.
It has a bit to do with these "Economic Stimulus Package" checks we’re
all going to be getting back sometime after May. I’ve heard different
radio commentators call this a welfare check, and in a sense, that’s
just what it is. This is not tax payer money that is being refunded. In
fact, it’s not even our government’s money that is being refunded. Our
government is having to borrow this money from CHINA to refund it to
us! It’s bad enough government spending is as out of hand as it is now
(and it’s only going to get worse after this election!), NOW, we’re
going $150 BILLION in debt to CHINA!
That’s not what this rant is about. I’m not mad about China sending me
a check for $1200 to help me pay down some debt and maybe get a HD-TV.
In fact, China is now my friend because of this. The problem with these
checks, besides an even BIGGER deficit for the US, is that the only
economy these checks are NOT going to help, IS OURS! Saudia Arabia is
going to be the biggest beneficiary of these checks, and that’s mostly
because of oil prices, which continue going up (not due to the war in
Iraq or President Bush exclusively) due to our economy being in such a
mess, and the Fed pumping out more money, and DEVALUING THE DOLLAR!
I’m getting off topic again, someone pull me back here.
In our country, there is an insane number of people on welfare. A large
percentage of that number sit around doing nothing to try to get
themselves out of the situation they are in, and claim that the
government owes them. They sit their with their hand out and wait for
the government to put a check in their hands that they "deserve".
Remind me again what it is you did to deserve this check? How did you
earn it again?
Sure, government hand-outs are nice. A little extra cash never helps.
But the problem with it is, it creates this welfare community. It
creates a world where personal responsibility means nothing anymore.
When you get into a sticky situation, created by your own mistakes,
HAVE NO FEAR! The government will bail you out! They owe it to you!
GET REAL!
This state of mind is EXACTLY the state of mind that has caused this
"housing crisis" and the economic mess that we are in right now. This
state of mind invites a Nanny State where the government takes care of
all your problems. Nanny State...there’s another name for that... What
was it again?
OH YEAH!
COMMUNISM!

Your Opinion and Comments: Hi...
I've wanted to write for some time, but life got in the way.
RE...illegal immigration. I'm against it...but I lived in CA for many
years and want to share some info. First...the older generations of
Mexican-Americans, the ones whose kids and grand-kids were born here,
generally dislike the illegals more than anybody else does. They feel
the illegals are destroying their heritage and reputation. I've had
many Mexican-American friends, and I've also had clients with Mexican
heritage in the financial services field for many years. I know from
statistics and experience that the older Mexican-American community is
very highly rated in terms of integrity and family tradition.
I believe the Federal and State governments are 90%responsible for most
of the illegal challenges we face. Our legislative bodies are
ridiculously flawed. California, unfortunately, is a leader in social
changes for the nation, and the Democrats in CA have been the major
proponents of illegal alien rights, because most of the Spanish
speaking community has traditionally voted Democratic. The more come
in, the more votes they eventually get. Re...work. Most illegals take
jobs that American workers are too proud to do. Years ago, a high
school teacher surveyed the attitudes of the students regarding illegal
aliens. The attitude was negative. Then, the students were given the
opportunity to work in the fields harvesting crops for a short period
of tome. When re-surveyed, the attitudes had changed. It's a matter of
perspective.
RE...PA gambling. The governor and his cronies should be lynched for
what they're doing to the seniors in this State. Check out the casinos.
Most of the gamblers, other than on weekend nights, appear to be
seniors. Many are playing multiple machines, with hundreds or even
thousands of dollars in the till. Many are using credit and debit cards
to fund their habit. This is an immoral activity, not because of my
beliefs, but because of what it is going to do to so many people who
cannot control their gambling.
Let's see...if I, as a senior citizen, wager one dollar, I may get back
six cents on my property taxes, except that I can't afford to own
any??? Meanwhile, I spent 23 months waiting for SSDI, and lost my
rental home, auto and most of my possessions. When finally approved, I
immediately lost my health insurance because I have too much income???
RE...the election process. It's a farce. I'm 62 years old. The only
President elected on real merit was Dwight D Eisenhower, and his
qualifications had more to do with WWII than politics. Since then, we
have been faced with negative, egotistical and immoral candidates ever
since. The two party system merely feeds us whomever the "in" group
wants. The election outcome makes no difference. The rich and powerful
will become more rich and more powerful during the next four years. The
poor will become poorer, and the middle class will be raped harder.
That's what America has become.
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson warned against multiple family members
in government, and against the possibility of unscrupulous persons
saying whatever was needed to become elected, then using the laws to
retain their power. The warning was made BEFORE the Constitution was
completed. Yet, their fears have been realized anyway.
I truly believe that if they were alive today, they would lead the next
revolution against the government and bureaucracy. They would be joined
by Civil War combatants, all those who've died for their country in
wars of all kinds, and especially the quality people who really built
this country from the ground up.
RE...the future. I do not believe the US will exist ten years from now,
as we now know it. For more than two centuries, we have bullied the
other citizens of the world, stealing their assets and destroying their
cultures. They have every reason to hate us and seek our demise.
If we were a third world country, and if another coutry had treated us
this way, wouldn't we want to topple them and hopefully become better
off?
In the 1960's, I was taught that we had only 6% of the world's
population, yet we owned or controlled more than 50% of the world's
resources. At the time, I was excited and proud about that. I was
taught that we were the most morally correct nation, with the best form
of government. It was all lies.
The government abuses people. The organized churches are using people.
The Hollywood media is raping our kids intellectually and leading them
into false beliefs regarding ethics and effort.
Non-Hollywood media is misleading adults daily with their spin
machines. Re...me. I raised three kids as a single Dad. They're all
honor students with excellent moral character and good citizenship. Two
went on to serve in the Navy. Yet, we were stalked for 17 years, the
kids were in 12 schools by the 8th grade, and we ended up homeless
several times.
We still made it!
Despite all the challenges from other sources, the government was our
worst enemy the entire time! It is biased against single Dads, it's
based upon greed and ego, and there are very few cases in which right
and justice really prevail.
The most amazing thing is that the American people languish in apathy
and refuse to do anything about the system. If it can't be corrected,
then it needs to be abolished, legally or otherwise. That, believe it
or not, is COMMON SENSE.
Just for kicks...try to change your personal info (address, etc) at
Altoona Hospital. It can't be done until you are admitted as a patient
again. The system won't allow it! Of course, if you have an accident
and are unconcious, they won't have your correct info, but that only
affects you, not the precious system.
...try to correct an error in the PENNDOT system, or the IRS system, or
the Social Services system. These systems are in place to feed off of
themselves, creating work and expanding in an uncontrolled manner.
Don't we deserve a better system? I'd bet there are millions of more
qualified people in this country who would volunteer their time and
effort to make it a better system than we have. Simple suggestion...why
not include affected people in the process? Let some successful people
who've overcome homelessness have a say in the legislation concerning
homelessness. Let medical survivors assist in designing the medical
laws. Invite people who have successfully overcome drugs, alcohol and
other maladies to assist with the processes dealing with those things.
Allow vets from Iraq to help formulate policy there, and especially, to
monitor the systems that provide armaments and other supplies. My
perception, and I believe it is the perception of many others, is that
we have an inept government, run by and for an egotistical and greedy
electorate, and there is no way to correct it, because they have the
power.
Why must we pay fast rising fuel prices, when we're also being told of
the billions in oil company profits? We're told that they need the
money for new exploration, but that is an expense. Profit is what you
have left, after deducting the expenses.
Why are miners, steel workers and others losing benefits, after they
retire? When did we change the meaning of "vested"?
Why are we allowing stricter laws regulating bankruptcy, yet listening
to lobbyists for companies that spend millions in the hunt for ways to
promote unwise credit usage? Do you want stronger families? Provide
ways for males to work at a living wage. I'm not against women working
if they choose to, but when two parents can't provide for the family,
the male is also destroyed emotionally. Historically, men have been
providers. If we aren't anymore, than what value do we have? America
exports abortion, divorce tolerance, alternative life styles,
corruption in business and government, and bigotry. Is it any wonder
we're importing hatred and vengeance?
Just some thoughts...sorry they got so wordy...I got on a roll. ;)
Paul

Your Opinion and Comments: Hello
there. I'm the caller that called in to the Steve Clark show a little
before 9:30 on "Leap Day" that made the comment about if we don't vote
for John McCain, we're going to become the United Socialist States of
America. I didn't get to fully elaborate on the points I was wanting to
make at the time because I was on my break at work and wanted to be
sure I made it back to my desk in the allotted time :) So please
forgive me if I take this opportunity to rant on and on far too long.
I've been in a bit of a rare form today as I've discussed these issues
with some friends. And by the way, if you have the time, I'd appreciate
any feedback you'd have to offer. My e-mail is
eljimmasterdelapuerta@hotmail.com, and I tune into the show around 7
when I start working if you'd choose to comment on this on the air.
The first comment I made (briefly) in my call was this whole debacle
over Sheetz's Crispy Frickin' Chicken. Throughout the day I listened to
the news updates played on the station at the top of each hour when
they'd comment that parents didn't want their children exposed to the
"F word" on a daily basis. Hold on a minute! When did "frickin'" become
the "F word"? Are you telling me that the old "F word" is no longer the
"F word"? Last time I checked, the "F word" was spelled differently
than "frickin'". I don't know, maybe I need to get my eyes checked, but
the "Ri" as it appears on these billboards just doesn't look like a "U"
to me. I'm not seeing the "F word" in this advertising campaign!
Let me catch my breath a minute... Got a little riled up there...
Now, I'm not sure how much truth there is to be found in Steve's
explanation of the origination of the word "Frickin'". I don't know, I
haven't researched that personally, for all I know, Steve is 100%
accurate about this. However, on the subject of "bad" words, I'm trying
to recall correctly but someone explained it to me this way several
years ago, and again, I'm not entirely sure how much truth this holds,
but I'd be willing to believe this much easier than I would believe
universal health care and redistribution of wealth are good ideas. Ok,
let me come back from that tangent. As it was explained to me, hundreds
of years ago, royalty in England or somewhere in that part of the world
decided that there were certain words that they didn't like the sound
of, and so they declared these to be "bad" words, so they wouldn't have
to hear these words spoken. Good thing I don't have a crown on my head,
because with my sick, twisted sense of humor, just to be arbitrary, I'd
have to declare "flashlight", "roundabout" and "Canada" bad words, just
to be arbitrary!
I'm going to try to wrap up this part of the rant now... To be honest,
the first time I saw these billboards, I wasn't offended. In fact, the
first thing that went through my mind was "Wow, these guys have some
balls!" Or maybe I'd better say "marbles" instead. "Balls" might be
offensive to some people and I should make a more conscious effort to
try and be more politically correct. While I'm apologizing, I meant no
ill-will towards Canada with my earlier statement. I've been there
once, to Niagara Falls, and the only complaint I have about the trip is
that I didn't see one Mountie, and came home slightly disappointed
about that. In other news, I'd prefer if people don't use my middle
name any more. It happens to be Robert, which is my father's name,
which is a name my father gave me, and I have no control over that, but
I'd prefer if it wasn't used in conversation.
I don't know, guys, something tells me you just won't be able to read
this one on the air :D
I'll try not to spend so much time on the second part of this, as this
was the part of the phone call that both myself and Steve went into
further detail about on the air. That, and it's nearly midnight now,
and my wife's probably wondering why I haven't come to bed yet! For
those who missed it, I made the statement that I keep hearing all of
these "conservatives" saying that they can't vote for John McCain. I
went on to say that if this is the mindset, then we conservatives need
to pull our heads out of our rear-ends! If we all DON'T vote for
McCain, the we may as well change our country's abbreviation to USSA
for United Socialist States of America, and replace the fifty stars on
a blue background, with a hammer and sickle on a red background! Steve
agreed with me, and said that he's afraid that Barak Hussein Obama (uh
oh, I just used the "H word"! I'd better take that billboard down
before your kids see it... By the way, that "H word" was my personal
addition, not Steve Clark's words.) ...that Barak Obama will be elected
president, and America will see it's first Marxist, Socialist
president, and that's scary! Steve, I couldn't have said it better
myself, and that's why you have a show on the radio, and I don't!
That said, I'm going to make this my last point, and this is the part
of my rant that I'd most like some feedback on. I guess you could say
I've always been a bit fascinated by radio, even pondering on the idea
of becoming a DJ at a few different points of time. Now that I've
started listening to more conservative talk radio, getting more
interested in politics and the like...I'm now curious just what it
would take to become a conservative talk radio commentator such as
yourself. I'm a 21 year old with a High School diploma, and no real
post-secondary schooling to speak of (a year and a half at a
theological school and a year at the Altoona Career and Technology
Center for Auto Mechanics), which if I wanted to go to Penn State or
any other such college, I can't get jack for credits transferred from
there. I would really appreciate to hear back from you on this
regarding what I would have to do if I wanted to seriously pursue this
idea. Thank you for your time, and allowing me to rant!
